Projects: Side Gigs, Passive Income and Investments

Project ideas ranging from beginner to expert. Complete at least one project per difficulty level as you progress through the modules. Projects are the bridge between theory and real-world application.

Beginner Projects

Project B1: Personal Financial Snapshot

Modules: 01
Time: 2–3 hours
Deliverable: A written document (or spreadsheet)

Map your current financial situation: 1. Calculate your monthly net income (all sources) 2. List all monthly expenses in categories (moradia, alimentação, transporte, lazer, etc.) 3. Calculate your savings rate: (income − expenses) / income × 100 4. Identify your current emergency fund status: months of expenses covered 5. Write a one-paragraph assessment of your financial health and the top three changes you would make

Success criteria: You can articulate your exact monthly cash flow position and savings rate with numbers, not estimates.

Project B2: MEI Registration Walkthrough

Modules: 02
Time: 1–2 hours
Deliverable: MEI certificate (CCMEI) or a documented dry-run report

Walk through the MEI registration process on portal.gov.br/empresas-e-negocios. If you have a legitimate business activity, complete the registration. If not, document every step you would take, including which CNAE code you would choose and why.

Success criteria: You understand the MEI registration process end-to-end and can explain the DAS payment obligation and annual DASN-SIMEI declaration.

Intermediate Projects

Project I1: Investment Comparison Analysis

Modules: 06
Time: 3–4 hours
Deliverable: Spreadsheet with comparison table and written recommendation

Research current rates for: Tesouro Selic, a CDB from a major bank, a CDB from a digital bank, LCI from two different banks. Then: 1. Build a table comparing gross yield, IR impact, and net yield for a R$ 10.000 investment over 12 months 2. Account for the IOF table for short-term redemptions 3. Write a one-page recommendation for someone who needs the money in exactly 12 months vs. someone with a 3-year horizon

Success criteria: Your comparison correctly accounts for IR via tabela regressiva and produces defensible net yield comparisons.

Project I2: FII Portfolio Blueprint

Modules: 08
Time: 4–5 hours
Deliverable: Written portfolio proposal with rationale

Using a screener (Investidor10, Status Invest, or Funds Explorer), research and select 5–8 FIIs to form a hypothetical portfolio with R$ 10.000. For each FII: 1. State the segment (tijolo: lajes, galpões, shopping, etc. or papel: CRI) 2. Record current P/VP, Dividend Yield (12 months), vacância física, and taxa de administração 3. Explain why you selected or rejected specific FIIs based on these metrics 4. Calculate the expected monthly dividend income from your R$ 10.000 allocation

Success criteria: Your portfolio is diversified across at least 3 FII segments and you can explain your selection criteria with reference to specific KPI thresholds.

Advanced Projects

Project A1: Tax Scenario Calculator

Modules: 10
Time: 5–6 hours
Deliverable: Spreadsheet or step-by-step written calculation

Model the following investor scenario for one full calendar year: - Monthly aportes of R$ 1.000 in ações, split across 3 positions - Sales in three different months: one month selling R$ 15.000, one month selling R$ 25.000, one month selling R$ 35.000 - Varying cost bases per position

Calculate: 1. Which months require DARF payment and why 2. The exact GCAP tax due each month (using correct 15% rate for ações comuns) 3. The DARF due date for each taxable month 4. How to structure sales to maximize the R$ 20.000/mês isenção benefit over the year

Success criteria: Your calculations match the actual GCAP rules and you can identify the optimal sale sequencing to minimize tax legally.

Project A2: Digital Product Validation Plan

Modules: 03, 04
Time: 4–6 hours
Deliverable: A written product validation document

Design a digital product (course, ebook, template, or software tool) you could realistically create within 60 days. Document: 1. The specific problem it solves and the target audience (persona) 2. Pricing strategy with rationale (compare to 3 existing competing products on Hotmart or similar) 3. A launch funnel: how you would drive traffic and convert to sales 4. A 6-month revenue projection with assumptions clearly stated 5. The minimum viable version you could create in 30 days to test demand

Success criteria: Your plan is specific enough that another person could evaluate its feasibility. Projections include realistic conversion rates, not just best-case scenarios.

Expert Projects

Project E1: 10-Year Financial Independence Simulation

Modules: 11, 12 (this is also the Capstone)
Time: 10–15 hours
Deliverable: Comprehensive written plan with spreadsheet model

See the Capstone Project module for the full brief. This is the ultimate synthesis project for this entire topic.

Project E2: Full Investment Policy Statement (IPS)

Modules: All
Time: 6–8 hours
Deliverable: A written Investment Policy Statement

Write a personal IPS (Política de Investimentos) that covers: 1. Your financial goals (short, medium, long-term) with specific amounts and dates 2. Your risk tolerance assessment with rationale 3. Target asset allocation across: renda fixa, FIIs, ações/ETFs, international, alternatives 4. Rebalancing rules (when and how you will rebalance) 5. What market conditions would or would not cause you to deviate from the policy 6. Tax optimization strategy (use of isenção, sequencing of redemptions, etc.)

Success criteria: Your IPS is specific enough to be actionable. A future version of you could read it and know exactly what to do in any market scenario without needing to re-decide each time.
