Projects: Module 01 — Introduction to Construction in Brazil¶

These projects are specifically scoped for Module 01 content. For the full topic project list, see ../../PROJECTS.md.

Project 1.A: Your Building Assessment Report¶

Difficulty: Beginner Estimated time: 3–5 hours Builds on: Module 01 Theory (building types, structural identification)

Description: Produce a written assessment report for a building you have access to — your home, a family member's property, or a building you are able to inspect. The report documents the building's construction system, materials, age, and any visible renovation opportunities or concerns.

What to produce:

A document (1–2 pages) covering: 1. Building identification (approximate age, location type — urban/suburban/rural, number of stories) 2. Construction system identification (which of the four types, with your evidence/reasoning) 3. Wall thickness measurements at two different interior walls 4. Any visible columns or beams 5. Roof type and approximate condition 6. At least two renovation opportunities you observe 7. At least one concern or risk you observe that would require professional assessment

Success Criteria: - [ ] Construction system identified with supporting evidence - [ ] At least two wall thickness measurements taken and recorded - [ ] At least one professional consultation item identified with reasoning - [ ] Report is written clearly enough that someone who hasn't seen the building could understand it

Project 1.B: PPE Inventory and Gap Analysis¶

Difficulty: Beginner Estimated time: 2–3 hours Builds on: Module 01 Theory (PPE requirements)

Description: Conduct a complete inventory of PPE you currently own. For each task category covered in Module 01, assess whether your current PPE is adequate. Produce a prioritized shopping list for any gaps.

What to produce:

A table showing: - PPE item - Currently owned? (yes/no) - Condition (good/fair/worn — replace if worn) - Gap? (yes/no) - Priority to purchase (high/medium/low — based on the renovation tasks you anticipate) - Approximate cost (check at your local hardware store or Leroy Merlin/C&C)

Success Criteria: - [ ] Every PPE category from Module 01 is covered - [ ] Priority is justified based on anticipated renovation scope - [ ] Total investment cost estimated
